minor freak out

Okay, so here is the video that spurred my minor freak out this morning.

You know, the freak out that caused me to set all of my recent Flickr photos to private, therefore breaking the HTML code that I embedded on my blog, therefore causing the pictures to not show up????

Ya, that freak out.

Well it has actually been a long time coming.  Mike and my mom have always expressed their concern with what has been shared on this here blog.  I haven't been specific about what neighborhood we live in or where Michael goes to school, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to figure out.

I have been reading A LOT lately about pictures of children being copied from blogs and posted in places where people have been pretending like they are their kids.  I know, CREEPY.

Anyways, I am starting to get what Mike and my mom have been saying all along.  I don't want to go private because I think it is fun to look at other blogs and meet new people in the blogosphere, but I do want to be more careful with what I put out there.

Here is a good link that talks about protecting your child's online presence.  I personally have had to remove certain words or phrases from my blog  in the past because it was leading to weird/gross Google searches.

Anyhoo, I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, and I don't want to give the impression that I'm not going to post pictures of my kid's anymore, because that's not the case.  I did however make sure the GPS setting on my phone was turned off (you should too!) and all of my pictures from here on out will be set to private on my Flickr account.

Peace out home skillet.

thanks for linking to my post. Your photos are gorgeous (as is the subject matter) so I understand the wish to share them. By the way - 'peace out home skillet' made me LOL :)

I applaud your diligence...getting oneself off the "grid" is essential...I've been "dark" for years...one can NEVER be too careful...
